SDL Communications Introduces Industry's Most Comprehensive Family of PMC WAN Adapters

SDL Communications, the market leader in high performance wide area networking (WAN) adapters, today announced the availability of the industry's most comprehensive family of PMC bus based WAN adapters. SDL's new line of PMC WAN adapters will be known as the MAXIM series. The MAXIM series completes SDL's wide range of PCI-variant WAN adapter offerings that currently consist of well-established PCI and CompactPCI bus based WAN interfaces supporting rates from 56k to OC3. The MAXIM series will initially consist of the following four PMC WAN adapters supporting speeds from 56k to 52 Mbps: MAXIM 570: Low cost, high performance single port adapter with integrated T1 CSU/DSU MAXIM 575: Low cost, high performance dual port adapter with integrated T1 CSU/DSU MAXIM 800: High performance single port HSSI adapter MAXIM 805: High performance dual port HSSI adapter PMC is gaining momentum as a general mezzanine I/O scheme for VME, CompactPCI and "Pizza Box" embedded applications which target custom, low profile network devices. "As evidenced by its history of cutting-edge product development over the last decade, SDL Communications is committed to leading its OEM customers into the new millennium of networking by providing them with state-of-the-art products designed to meet their evolving needs," comments Robbie Dhillon, President and CEO of SDL Communications. "SDL's introduction of the MAXIM series offers OEM customers the highest performance PMC WAN adapters along with the continued SDL tradition of providing cost-efficient products and industry leading OEM support." CP/2 Architecture: Modular Approach to Hardware and Software Design The MAXIM series of WAN adapters was developed using SDL's industry leading CP/2 Architecture. CP/2 Architecture is a modular approach to hardware and software design that utilizes common components, interfaces, hardware platforms and software drivers to develop WAN adapters. "Our CP/2 Architecture provides OEM customers with many valuable benefits, including reduced time to market, increased product options and ability to leverage a variety of applications and protocol stacks," notes Mr. Dhillon. Although not available until 1999, future developments in the MAXIM series will include DS3, ATM-DS3, ATM-OC3 technologies.
