Targeted for WAN access, Internet applications and Integrated Access Devices
Suited for Windows NT Server Based Remote Access strategies
PCI Bus Plug-and-Play
Windows NT Software Support and a Device Driver Development Kit (DDK)
$1,000 List Price, available to OEM customers, resellers, and system integrators
SDL Communications, a market leader in high-performance Wide Area Networking (WAN) sub-systems, today announced the availability of the industry's first PCI WAN adapter with integrated T1 DSU/CSU. The WANic
550 adapter is explicitly targeted at OEM customers who are developing Internet access platforms, Integrated Access Devices, WAN communication platforms as well as Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Microsoft Solution Providers who are deploying Windows NT systems that utilize the Routing and Remote Access capabilities of the Windows NT platform.
550 is the industry's first single and dual port (WANic
555 Dual Port), PCI WAN adapter that offers an integrated T1 DSU/CSU. Leveraging the strengths of the other WAN adapters in the WANic Product Line, the WANic
550/555 is available with pre-packaged Windows NT software drivers for IP over Frame Relay and IPX over Frame Relay. PPP support will be available in May 1998.
550 is a good example of SDL's ability to stay ahead of market demand. It satisfies the demand for a PCI bus CSU/DSU that has emerged from system integrators and leading networking companies who are developing low-cost Integrated Access Devices that support a variety of WAN services. The WANic
550 also fills the need for an internal CSU/DSU to meet the needs of VARs and system integrators who are networking Windows NT servers using the Routing and Remote Access features of Windows NT," commented Robbie Dhillon, President and CEO of SDL Communications.
For OEM customers, SDL Communications is offering a Driver Development Kit (DDK). The WANic
550/555 Driver Development Kit is designed to accelerate the integration process that OEM customers require in order to develop custom software support for the WANic
550/555. It includes all software drivers, source code and documentation to aid in the development of applications using SDL products. It is also designed to provide a common programming interface to all SDL adapters, enabling seamless integration of new products or product upgrades.
Leveraging SDL's CP/2 Architecture
550 is based on SDL's proven and highly successful CP/2 Product Architecture®. This architecture provides:
Reduced time to market for new adapters, new interfaces and product features
Commonality of hardware and software that reduce development and integration costs
The use of industry standard I/O modules
Use of industry standard software drivers (I20, NDIS, UNIX Streams, Windows NT) that enable clients to leverage a variety of applications and protocol stacks
Market leadership in cost and performance and capabilities
