SBS Technologies Leverages I/O Expertise with New Advanced Mezzanine Card

Compliant with Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture, the TELUM 1001 Module is First PCI-Express AMC

(Nasdaq: SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, announced the first member of its new Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA or AdvancedTCA®) family. SBS Technologies expands one of the broadest lines of communication modules in the embedded industry by introducing the TELUM 1001-O3M Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC), a high performance Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) module conforming to the current draft of the AMC.1 specification. The TELUM 1001-O3M AMC module provides full duplex OC-3 ATM front I/O capabilities to an AdvancedTCA system. As a leading provider of PCI mezzanine cards to the embedded computer market, SBS Technologies will build upon the company's existing expertise by creating a broad new family of AMC modules for a variety of telecommunication applications. “Our I/O products address a wide range of performance levels and build grades, said Charlie Tompkins, Vice President and General Manager of Communications I/O for SBS. “Our new TELUM line enhances AdvancedTCA-based equipment and we will continue to leverage our design expertise toward the integration of the protocol with advanced hardware and software.” The TELUM 1001-O3M uses an Intel® 41210 Serial to Parallel PCI bridge to the PCI Express® bus to communicate with the host processor on an AdvancedTCA system. This board is the first in a series of next generation I/O solutions using the AMC form factor. Future modules will feature the processing performance of Intel® Internet Exchange Architecture. The TELUM 1000 complies with ATM Forum UNI 3.1 and TM 4.0 and is based on an advanced ATM Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR) Controller designed to optimize the PCI Express Bus interface. This new AMC module offers an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) subsystem used to initialize board level parameters, monitor board voltage and temperature conditions, maintain system status, and manage hot swap operation. A microcontroller is used as the IPMI intelligence and connects to the ATCA System Management bus and the local PCI Express Bridge device.
