SBS Technologies Introduces the PC7 rugged Industrial Computer

  • All-in-one computer for rugged, industrial environments
  • Industrial enclosure protects against dust/water
  • Flexible processor/memory/operating system configurations
  • Expandable and configurable peripheral interfaces Albuquerque, NM (November 25, 2003) – SBS Technologies® (Nasdaq: SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, introduced the PC7 rugged, an all-in-one industrial computer housed in a compact EMI-protected metal enclosure that is dust and water resistant. The PC7 rugged is ideal for machine control, data acquisition and processing, communication, and other embedded applications used in industries that expose electronics to harsh environmental conditions. "Heavy rain, saltwater, fog, sandstorms, and snow will render most computers useless," said Adrian Bernhard, Managing Director of SBS European Operations. "But for some industrial applications, exposure to the forces of Mother Nature is simply unavoidable. The coating used for the PC7 rugged's aluminium housing was initially designed for military applications. By leveraging our expertise in the military, SBS can offer efficient, cost-effective rugged products for industrial use." Designed for Harsh Environments The enclosure for the PC7 rugged is designed to be dustproof and withstand water from high-pressure water jets, meaning the unit can be hosed down if necessary. The PC7 rugged has been designed for applications where integrators need IP65 and NEMA compliant equipment. Testing is underway for both certifications. The PC7 rugged is also available in extended temperature versions for operating environments from –40 to +50C. PC7 rugged Features/Benefits OEMs can purchase the PC7 rugged in various processor and memory configurations; it features either an Intel® Pentium® III 700MHz or Celeron® 566MHz processor and up to 256MB of SDRAM. The PC7 rugged comes with a fully integrated power supply as well as four serial RS-232 or RS422 I/O channels and five opto-isolated I/O lines, all protected against unexpected power surges. The PC7 rugged offers an array of peripheral interfaces, including a video interface, FastEthernet, and a local hard drive or FlashDrive. It also features a PCI bus, two USB ports, a CANbus, and three PC/104+ expansion slots to enable custom extensions such as Interbus-S, Profibus, and Device-Net peripherals. The PC7 rugged runs on the Embedded NT, Windows® 2000/NT/XP, QNX, VxWorks®, or Linux operating systems. Price and Availability The PC7 rugged is available now. Pricing starts at $2,210.00 About SBS Technologies, Inc. SBS Technologies, Inc.
