SBS Technologies, Inc., Embedded Computers Introduces Flexible VMEbus PC/AT Card for Embedded Applications

Supports large range of embedded applications optimizing cost and performance
Features dual PMC sites for graphic and I/O options
Provides single VMEbus slot solution

SBS Technologies, Inc., Embedded Computers (formerly SBS Embedded Computers) announces the PRO3, the third offering in a product family of Socket 7- based VME processor boards designed for flexibility to meet application specific requirements. The PRO3 is a cost-effective board that includes dual PMC sites, processor speeds up to 333 MHz, up to 128MB of EDO DRAM, and up to 144MB of Flash Disk-on-Chip, all in a single VMEbus slot.
"The PRO3 expands on our embedded concept based on a core board that offers a standard VME interface, a Socket 7-processor (K6 or Pentium MMX), memory, and basic PC/AT I/O functions," said Clarence Peckham, President of SBS Technologies, Inc., Embedded Computers. "The dual PMC slots are then used to tailor the board to the needs of the embedded application. The modularity of memory and processors combine with the two PMC slots to provide a versatile product that can be configured for use in a wide range of systems. By using PMC modules to fulfill the application specific I/O requirements, a PRO3 core platform can be easily configured for use in multiple system designs."
Price and Availability
Pricing for the Proteus is $2,400 in OEM quantities and will be available second quarter, 1999. For various models and pricing, contact SBS Technologies, Inc., Embedded Computers, 6301 Chapel Hill Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 ; Phone: 919-851-1101: Fax: 919-851-2844, E-mail: email@example.com.
The VMEbus interface is implemented using Tundraís Universe II VMEbus Interface Controller. It provides a full VME64 interface including master, slave, interrupter, interrupt handler, and system controller functions. In addition, the PRO3 also includes hardware byte swapping capabilities. Drive interfaces for the PRO3 include an Enhanced IDE interface with bus-mastering capability and a floppy controller with DMA capability. The IDE and floppy interface signals, along with a serial port (COM1), are available through the VMEbus P2 for ease of connection with SBS Technologies, Inc., Embedded Computersí VMEbus drive modules or with other external drive assemblies. Front panel I/O includes an Ethernet port, serial port (COM2), parallel port (LPT1), and a combined mouse-keyboard port. A field upgradeable, flash-based, AT-compliant plug-and-play ROM BIOS is provided. It includes power management features and extensions for the VMEbus interface. The PRO3 is 100% IBM PC/AT and VMEbus compatible and supports a wide variety of off-the-shelf software packages that utilize the PC architecture. Operating systems supported include Microsoftís MS-DOS, Windows, Windows 98 and Windows NT as well as real-time operating systems QNX, Linux, and VxWorks.
