SBS Technologies, Inc. Announces Intelligent Four Port E1/T1 PMC Module

SBS Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:SBSE) today announced that PMC-8260, a new intelligent PMC module with four front or rear panel E1 or T1 interfaces, will soon ship in prototype quantities to select telecom customers with full production slated for January 2000. The PMC-8260 utilizes the powerful 133 MHz Motorola MPC8260 PowerQUICC II&8482; Integrated Communications Processor. The PMC-8260 is an ideal mezzanine for VME or CompactPCI host processor or carrier boards that serve applications in the Advanced Intelligent Network, Wireless Infrastructure, or Intelligent Peripheral markets. The MPC8260 provides ample processing power to execute protocols such as SS7 directly on the PMC-8260 without relying on the host processor in the VME or CompactPCI system. The module includes 16 Mbytes of 64-bit wide SDRAM and 4 Mbytes Flash memory for local program and data storage. In addition to the flash memory, a 4Kbit serial EEPROM is available for non-volatile storage of application parameters. An ordering option configures the PMC-8260 with a SC4000 controller used as a TDM switch to provide an SCBus interface via the PMC P4 connector. An EIA 232 serial port is also available through the P4 connector for debug and system monitoring capabilities. Software driver development is streamlined with a JTAG connector and daughter board that provides 10/100BaseT Ethernet support. The PMC-8260 module is compliant with standard single-wide PMC specifications IEEE P1386.1 and PCI 2.1 specifications. The PMC-8260 will include software support for implementing SS7 (MTP1 and MTP2) protocol interfaces. The driver support minimizes development time for building Intelligent Network platforms for a wide range of telecom and datacom applications in areas such as VïIP Gateways, Signal Transfer Points (STP), and Intelligent Peripherals (IP).
