FPGA 6U CompactPCI® (CPCI) Board with Alteraâs® Fastest Stratix® Devices
Two 64 bit/66 MHz PMC sites with 1 Gbyte/sec Direct Connection to FPGA Devices
8 Gbytes/sec Connection Between FPGA Devices for Common Platform Computing
Albuquerque, New Mexico, July 20, 2004âToday, SBS Technologies® (NASDAQ: SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, introduced the Tsunami 6U CPCI A80, an advanced FPGA-based computing platform. Based on Alteraâs high-density Stratix device family, the board leverages FPGA capabilities for high-performance commercial and military computing solutions, including software defined radio, radar, sonar, image and video processing applications. The result is a complete computing system capable of supporting algorithm-intensive, high-bandwidth applications with far less real estate, lower power, and lower cost than existing multi-CPU or DSP systems.
"The high performance SBS Tsunami 6U CPCI FPGA-based computing solution is an excellent example of the type of applications that benefit from our Stratix FPGA devices,â said Joe Hanson, director of marketing for system-level development tools at Altera. âThe Tsunami 6U CPCI is designed to operate reliably in demanding operating conditions and comes with exceptional software and engineering support."
Using two of Alteraâs high-performance Stratix EP1S80 FPGA devices, the SBS Tsunami 6U CPCI A80 features dual PMC slots for ample I/O connectivity. A direct 1 Gbyte/sec path from the PMC slots to the P4 connector on the FPGA devices provides high-speed data delivery.
"FPGA-based computing power delivers ASIC-like efficiency from software re-programmable logic, and the ability to parallel-process multiple streams of data,â said Ron Strauss, vice president and general manager of SBS Canada. âIf your data processing or imaging application requires the resources of multiple CPUs or DSPs to handle the required data rate and algorithm complexity, you should be considering an SBS FPGA-based computing solution."
Leveraging the SBS support services and engineering resources available to OEM customers, this board includes the SBS Wave⢠FPGA software tool kit and Alteraâs Quartus® II software design environment for rapid development of custom data throughput and image processing applications. The Tsunami 6U CPCI supports Green Hills Software® Integrity® RTOS, Linux and Microsoft® Windows® XP/2000 operating systems.
