SBS Technologies' DataXpress Installed In AFRL's Satellite Autonomy Test Bed For MightySat II Experimental Satellite

SBS Technologies, Inc.'s Aerospace Group announces that the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has installed its DataXpress™ software in AFRL's Satellite Autonomy Test Bed for the March, 2000 launch of the MightySat II experimental satellite. DataXpress is a comprehensive data acquisition and processing software package designed for the Windows© NT operating environment. The DataXpress software is being used along with a single PCI bus compatible module from SBS Berg Telemetry Systems in the AFRL applications. The DataXpress software and the Berg hardware combine to create the latest in telemetry system offerings from the SBS Aerospace Group. This next generation telemetry system is being integrated with and used within the AFRL's Satellite Autonomy Test Bed to provide a self-contained satellite monitoring ground station for experimenters and satellite analysts. Captain Steve Lindsay of the AFRL's Space Vehicles Directorate expounded on the procurement of SBS's telemetry system by saying, "Our decision to select the DataXpress software and Berg hardware was driven by our need for an inexpensive yet powerful telemetry processing tool set. The base DataXpress package includes media, documentation and the right to use all DataXpress components, including Display Clients, High Speed and Selective Archive/Playback, Alarm Manager and Trend Tool, on a single PC, including device servers. A DataXpress base software license is $9750. Additional clients are available for $5350. In addition, warranty, software support and unlimited upgrades for a period of one year are included. In the Satellite Autonomy Test Bed, the DataXpress software will be integrated with other powerful software packages, including a CORBA compliant messaging middleware product called Orbix from IONA Technologies, and a mission control package called Altaris from Altair Aerospace. The first expected operational use of the integrated system is projected to be in March, 2000 when the MightySat II experimental satellite is planned for launch. MightySat II is an AFRL multi-mission small satellite program dedicated to providing frequent, inexpensive, on-orbit demonstrations of high-payoff space systems technologies. The SBS Berg Telemetry hardware is a single PCI bus compatible module that combines the decommutator, bit synchronizer, PCM simulator and IRIG time code translator.
