Today SBS Technologies(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, announced the first set of InfiniBand(TM) IRIX(R) drivers with HIPPI-FP (High Performance Parallel Interface-Framing Protocol) emulation for InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs) supporting SGI 3.3V platforms.
IB4X-IRIX drivers enable the high data throughput, low latency, low CPU utilization and enhanced reliability that application developers want and for which InfiniBand is noted. Using an upper level protocol (ULP) for HIPPI emulation that is compatible with HIPPI-FP applications, IB4X-IRIX drivers allow drop-in replacement of HIPPI 3.3V hardware with InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs). Based on a low-level application programming interface targeted specifically at real-time data analysis, post production, and other high data volume applications, IB4X-IRIX is easy to use; consequently application development time is minimal.

InfiniBand technology is a serial switched fabric technology that has gained much respect and success in the HPC and enterprise markets for its high performance and scalability. InfiniBand technology offers the same advantages to application developers. Now, with IB4X-IRIX, developers working with high-performance SGI 3.3V PCI-X bus workstations and servers can bring the same scalability and high-performance to their solutions.
Designed to interconnect computing systems in the world of real time applications, InfiniBand technology, with data speeds up to 10Gbits/sec, adds a new level of performance for IRIX-based applications. Multiple systems can now achieve data throughput rates that were once only possible through proprietary point-to-point links.
The IB4X-IRIX solution is available with SBS InfiniBand host channel adapter hardware.
