SBS Technologies Announces a New Product Line of Conduction Cooled DSP-based I/O Modules
New Boards Provide DSP Performance, FPGA Reconfigurability, PMC Site Expansion in 3U CompactPCI and 6U VME Form Factors

ALBUQUERQUE, NM â Today, SBS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBSE), a leading provider of embedded computing technology, introduced a new line of conduction cooled DSP-based I/O Interface boards for military and defense applications. This new release consists of seven I/O boards: Three in the 6U VME DIO1/2/3-VME-CC line and four in the 3U cPCI DIO1/2/3-cPCI-CC line.
âAs SBS expands its integrated system solutions, we found that customer-specific input and output requirements represented the greatest variability in offering off-the-shelf solutions. Our design engineering teams leveraged their experiences using DSP and FPGA-based computing platforms into product designs that provide reconfigurability and reuse from application to application, regardless of the bus architecture or board form factor. This design approach offers our customers an entire portfolio of products that will meet the performance requirements of the end use application and operate in severe temperature, shock, and vibration environments," said Frank Willis, VP Business Development for SBS Technologies.
These DSP-based I/O interface boards are based on Texas Instruments' TMS5402 DSP and Altera's 1K ACEX FPGA devices. The cPCI DSP-based I/O interface boards feature a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) Interface slot for added versatility. All of these boards are based on SBS core designs and have varying I/O capabilities that can be added to or modified from an extensive array of previously designed and verified I/O circuits.
These cPCI and VME conduction cooled boards can handle a wide variety of signals and perform on-the-fly signal processing, making them ideal for mission computers and other applications with harsh environmental demands.
DSP program code and FPGA configuration data can be downloaded and stored in Flash memory via the host processor, allowing the board to combine the functionality of several specialty boards while saving precious backplane slots for other uses. Because these board designs are based upon a programmable architecture, SBS can provide custom features such as Engineering Unit (EU) conversion and precise timing of signals and sample rates.
