SBS Technologies and Spectrum Signal Processing Form Strategic Alliance to Deliver the Highest Density Voice over Packet Solutions to Telecommunications Market

SBS Technologies® (NASDAQ: SBSE) and Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. (NASDAQ: SSPI / TSE: SSY) announced today, a strategic alliance to develop and deliver Voice over Packet (VoP) products to the telecommunications convergence market. Based on the Memorandum of Understanding, the alliance will combine the core competencies of SBS, a leading provider of system level components and integration expertise, with the capabilities of Spectrum Signal Processing, a leading provider of high-density subsystems for wireless signal and Voice over Packet processing.

The alliance will encompass joint development, marketing and sales initiatives to provide customers with greater flexibility and new, complete solutions through advanced VoP blades and fully integrated media gateway platforms. The integrated solutions will deliver higher density and integration than other commercially available solutions to reduce risk and accelerate time-to-deployment for telecommunications equipment vendors. The first advanced products are targeted for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2002 and will target carrier-class applications including carrier-class trunking, broadband access, and mobile wireless infrastructure. Development platforms are available today.

"This alliance combines Spectrum's unique subsystems and market experience with our complementary blade, protocol and systems expertise including our recently announced Cascade® SE2.16 High Availability Systems product line," said Dan Moore, President of SBS Technologies Communications Group. "The combination of our high-performance, flexible broadband telecommunications processing systems with Spectrum's aXs™ technology will provide our customers with a deeper product offering and will open up exciting new packet-voice market opportunities."

"We are looking forward to collaborating with SBS. Through this alliance, our customers will now have more choice in how they integrate and deploy aXs products and technology – through an expanded offering of modular subsystems to a complete range of blade and system-level products," said Andy Talbot, VP of Network Solutions Group at Spectrum Signal Processing. This collaboration will also provide us with new market opportunities by allowing us to deliver our leading Voice over Packet solutions through SBS' established and worldwide sales channels."

"Given Spectrum's leadership in the VoP subsystem market, and SBS' leadership in telecommunications systems, the alliance of these two companies will result in industry-leading turnkey blade and system-level solutions, and reinforces the market recognition of Broadcom's CALISTO™ as the dominant processor in the Voice over Packet carrier space", stated Matthew Donham, Product Line Manager, Carrier Access Business Unit at Broadcom Corporation.

SBS and Spectrum will showcase their VoP Solutions in Booth 30814 at the SUPERCOMM 2002 Conference and Exhibit in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 4-6, 2002. SUPERCOMM is the premier annual communications and information technology exhibition and conference.
