RedSwitch and SBS Technologies Team to Provide Powerful Switching Solutions for Infiniband™ Market
Joint development and engineering efforts leverage RedSwitch's InfiniBand silicon expertise and SBS Technologies' advanced embedded computing market leadership
Continuing to demonstrate its leadership in advanced switch fabric and interconnect solutions, RedSwitch, Inc. today announced that SBS Technologies has selected RedSwitch's proven high performance HDMP-2840 InfiniBand switch chip as a key component for its advanced InfiniBand embedded computing products. The joint development and engineering effort will provide OEM customers with products that provide higher bandwidth, lower latency, higher quality of service and greater manageability for their InfiniBand applications.
"We selected RedSwitch as our strategic partner because of the new standard they have set in both performance and integration in InfiniBand switching technology," said Dave Greig, president and COO of SBS Technologies. "Together, we provide the market with a variety of InfiniBand products and technologies for the data center that offer high availability, high reliability and highly scalable solutions."
The first product developed through the alliance will be a an 8 port high performance, high throughput 19-inch rack-mounted chassis-based system based on the InfiniBand architecture. The switching element is based on the RedSwitch HDMP-2840, 8-port 4x InfiniBand switch fabric, providing an overall aggregate bandwidth of 160 Gbps.
"SBS Technologies is an established market leader in embedded computing products and its experience in developing leading OEM platforms and subsystems makes it an ideal partner for RedSwitch," said Hungwen Li, president and CEO of RedSwitch. "Our joint development team will advance the InfiniBand architecture standard with a new generation of solutions that will lower the total cost of ownership for the enterprise."
Rapidly becoming a mainstream switch fabric, InfiniBand technology is delivering true 10Gb/s transport capabilities today, offering greater performance and reliability for storage, communications and computing applications in the data center at a fraction of the cost of other 10Gb/s technologies. IDC projected the number of InfiniBand ports for server applications alone to grow from nearly 330 thousand ports in 2002 to more than 6.8 million ports in 2005.
