Radstone's New EmPower Communication PMC Offers Modular Solutions for Rugged Applications

Radstone Technology announce the PMCQ1, a new communication PMC to complement its existing COTS (Commercial-Off-the-Shelf) VME product range. The PMCQ1 is the very latest member of Radstone's EmPower family of communications orientated boards. Used in stand-alone EmPower configurations or in conjunction with one of Radstone's market leading PPCx PowerPC SBC's, the PMCQ1 offers an adaptable range of system solutions for rugged comms. applications. It features a Motorola QUICC device providing 4 high speed sync/async serial channels, plus an optional DDC Enhanced Mini-ACE providing a single channel dual-redundant MIL-STD-1553 interface. This powerful combination of features is identical to the comms subset on the existing EP1A-8240 SBC, the first member of the EmPower family.  The EmPower family is a range of cost-conscious boards based on embedded PowerPC technology and targeted at comms. applications requiring combinations of fast serial and MIL-STD-1553 channels. An appropriate mix of modules from the EmPower range can satisfy a wide range of systems requirements, avoiding the expense and extended lead time of custom or tailored products. The modular nature of the hardware is mirrored in the EmPower comms. software offering, which consists of layered modules from both Radstone and its technology partner Trillium Digital Systems Inc. "The EmPower family has been designed to provide highly adaptable combinations of COTS hardware and software for real world comms. applications", said Richard Kirk, Product Marketing Manager of Radstone's Processor Group. "The Empower products take advantage of the latest, highly integrated silicon to provide System Developers with simple 'mix and match' solutions." The PMCQ1 is offered across a wide range of ruggedization levels, meeting the needs of both the industrial and military/aerospace markets. Full software support for the whole EmPower range includes provision for standard HDLC / LAPB / X.25 communication protocol modules from Trillium plus a range of Radstone drivers, all layered over the popular COTS Operating Systems; VxWorks and LynxOS. Radstone's 40 plus years of experience supplying rugged embedded electronic systems makes them the supplier of choice for system integrators and defense OEM's in naval, avionics and industrial applications. The PMCQ1 extends the capabilities of the EmPower family, following the company's policy of integrating the most advanced silicon into their embedded electronics products and offering solutions to the most demanding of requirements. - ends -
