Radstone Broadens Range Of CompactPCI Solutions With 6U SBC

AFIX daughter card delivers unique I/O flexibility Providing further evidence of the company’s commitment to supporting the industry standards required by defense contractors worldwide, Radstone Embedded Computing today announced the first member of Radstone’s new PowerPact™ 6 product family, the CP1A 6U rugged CompactPCI PowerPC single board computer (SBC).  Following soon after the announcement of the IMP2A 3U Compact PCI SBC, the CP1A broadens the range of CompactPCI solutions available from Radstone.  Based on the powerful, flexible and field-proven architecture and technology of the PowerXtreme™ PPC7D VMEbus SBC, the CP1A features the latest Freescale 7448 PowerPC running at 1.4 GHz and the Marvell Discovery III Integrated System Controller.  The CP1A’s I/O flexibility is uniquely enhanced by Radstone’s new AFIX (Additional Flexible Interface Extension) daughter card, which offers new features via a plug-on module. Initial offerings in the AFIX form factor include AFIX1553 (dual channel, dual redundant MIL-STD-1553 interfaces) and AFIXSG (SCSI and Graphics Accelerator).  For customers requiring features not currently supported by the CP1A, the AFIX daughter card is specifically designed to allow the implementation of wholly new functionality, in less time and at a lower cost than would otherwise be possible. The CP1A’s I/O rich feature set also includes up to six serial ports, up to five USB 2.0 ports, up to 33 bits of discrete digital I/O, a parallel port and two PICMG 2.16-compliant Gigabit Ethernet ports. “We’re seeing an increasing number of programs evaluating CompactPCI as a technology choice, in many cases because of the range and flexibility of I/O options that it offers,” said Richard Kirk, Product Manager at Radstone Digital Processing, “The CP1A is designed to respond to the requirements of those programs, and also to enable our customers to achieve industry leading performance whether they choose CompactPCI or VMEbus as their technology base:  we remain committed to developing and supporting leading edge solutions for both.”  Radstone’s Deployed Test strategy is fully implemented in the CP1A with a combination of BIT (Built-In Test firmware) for comprehensive initialization test coverage, and BCS (Background Condition Screening) for non-destructive, continuous on-line testing. COTS Operating System support is provided in the form of BSPs (Board Support Packages) and ESPs (Enhanced Support Packages) for WindRiver’s VxWorks and VxWorks6. Linux support is under development and BSPs for LynuxWorks’ LynxOS and Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY are also planned. Pending availability of the Freescale 7448 PowerPC processor later in 2005, the PowerPact6 CP1A will ship with the 1.1GHz Freescale 7447A processor.
