New USB Module from GE Brings Convenience and Portability to MIL-STD-1553 Data Bus Analysis

HUNTSVILLE, AL  July 13 2012 GE Intelligent Platforms (NYSE: GE) has announced the R15-USB rugged MIL-STD-1553 module for portable deployment on-board aircraft, in ground stations and in testing facilities. Designed specifically for portable 1553 bus analysis applications that take advantage of the USB 2.0 form factor, the R15-USB delivers the latest generation of performance and flexibility for MIL-STD-1553A/B Notice II using a high speed USB 2.0 interface with either one or two dual-redundant channels.

Available in a -40° C to +75° C temperature version (with relays) and a ruggedized version (without relays), the R15-USB includes an advanced API (Application Programming Interface) that reduces application development time.

Standard features of GE’s R15-USB  include: IRIG-B signal receiver (AM or DC/TTL) /generator (DC/TTL); software-selectable transformer or direct coupling; 2 Mbytes of RAM; 64-bit nanosecond message time tagging; and input and output triggers for each 1553 channel. The R15-USB Bus Monitor provides extensive error detection and 100% monitoring of fully loaded buses.

The R15-USB’s multi-function interfaces are easily configured to operate with simultaneous Bus Controller, up to 31 remote terminals and Bus Monitor functionality. The R15-USB’s dual-function USB interfaces have all the features and functionality of the multi-function versions, with either Bus Monitor and Bus Controller or Bus Monitor and up to 31 remote terminals.

GE Intelligent Platforms provides an advanced 1553 API in source code, along with support for Windows® 7 (32- and 64-bit), Vista, XP and other operating systems. To access 1553 functionality without software development, GE’s BusTools/1553 MIL-STD-1553 bus analysis, simulation and data logging/monitoring solution is available.
