IndustryPack carrier for PCI bus broadens I/O functionality

GreenSpring Computers, the leading manufacturer of IndustryPack mezzanine modules, today announced the availability of the PCI-40, a IndustryPack carrier board which provides PCI-based systems with a wide range of high-density I/O solutions for high performance industrial, commercial and desktop host applications. The PCI-40 supports four IndustryPack modules per board, enabling the user to choose any of 300 different IndustryPack I/O functions for PCI systems. Since each PCI-40 board represents only one PCI load, four PCI-40 boards can be installed in a typical PCI system. Each IP site may be configured for either 8 MHz or 32 MHz operation, allowing data rates to 64MB/sec. The standard 8 MB memory space is available for each IP site. The high-speed 32-bit PCI host address space permits desirable linear mapping and fixed address partitions of memory, I/O and ID space for each IP module. "The addition of the PCI-40 makes any type of I/O available to the PCI bus. The more than 300 IndustryPack modules available on the market today gives the PCI designer instant access to standard proven I/O," says Joe Zabkar, president of GreenSpring Computers. "This will greatly enhance the time to market effectiveness of PCI systems by offering everything from digital and analog I/O to sophisticated communications protocols and/or graphics." "Typical PCI systems can only handle four loads, or slots. In passive backplane applications, one slot is the CPU and one is typically for the network card -- with I/O functions limited to the two remaining slots. IndustryPacks enable the designer to expand these two slots to allow eight different I/O functions, including analog, audio, digital, data communications, motion and temperature control and memory," he adds. The PCI-40 carrier board meets the PCI specification and conforms to the ANSI/VITA-4 IndustryPack Logic Interface Specification -- which ensures compatibility with over 300 IPs on the market today. It utilizes the PLX9660 PCI bus interface ship and Altera FPGA logic, providing a fully-configurable PCI interrupt vector space. Pricing and Availability Available for shipment in June, 1996, the PCI-40 carrier board is priced starting at $900. Founded in 1984, GreenSpring Computers is a subsidiary of SBS Technologies, Inc.
