GS16 Standalone Rugged Gigabit Ethernet Switch Delivers High Performance, Flexibility, IPv6 Capability

Architecture allows adaptation to wide range of out-of-the-chassis customer requirements Providing further evidence of the company’s strategy of listening to customers and developing the products required by the marketplace, Radstone Embedded Computing today announced the GS16 standalone Gigabit Ethernet switch.  Based on the architecture of the highly successful GBX16 Gigabit Ethernet switch, it is designed to provide customers with a powerful, flexible and reliable solution where the requirement is to situate the Ethernet switch outside the system chassis.  It is the only product of its type currently available. “Our customers are seeing an increasing number of out-of-the-chassis networking applications such as the networking of multiple chassis subsystems. In these applications, a networking solution such as the GS16 can be situated on any platform for flexible and central networking communications,” said Stuart Heptonstall, Product Marketing Manager at Radstone Digital Processing.  “Not only does it make for a more adaptable solution, but it also greatly eases management and maintenance and provides the possibility of enhanced uptime.  It can also free up a valuable additional chassis slot.” Housed in a fully rugged yet light weight and space efficient conduction-cooled enclosure, connection to the GS16 is via the rugged front panel connectors. These connectors are IP68 rated against humidity, salt spray and dust when mated. Furthermore, the construction of the GS16’s front panel lends itself to customization to accommodate varying connector types including optical connectors when the optically expanded variant is optioned. Providing sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbits/sec Gigabit ports, the GS16 incorporates advanced management software allowing guaranteed bandwidth on a per port or per VLAN basis. Port aggregation allows multiple ports to act as a single trunk, or provides redundant ports for reliability within a network.  Beyond this, and in line with latest DoD networking requirements, the GS16 provides IPv6 capability for traffic policing and Quality of Service (QoS) functionality. The GS16 is fully integrated and provides management software running within the secure environment of VxWorks. As standard, the GBX16 incorporates Radstone’s built-in test (BIT), which provides extensive and configurable testing of the GBX16 hardware.  Its high-performance design offers a comprehensive set of features including port trunking, broadcast storm protection, extensive VLAN support, IGMP snooping, Rapid Spanning Tree and link aggregation; and for Quality of Service, access control lists and bandwidth provisioning. The GS16 is available immediately.
