Eight Port Ethernet Switch on PMC Mezzanine Targets Rugged Networks

Radstone Technology the world’s leading independent supplier of high-performance, embedded computer products for defense and aerospace applications announces PMCE3R; a rugged Ethernet Switch so compact that it enables system designers to build Ethernet switching directly into their systems. This new PMC mezzanine is an eight port 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch with Gigabit uplink port. PMCE3R extends Radstone’s rapidly growing line of networking products for harsh environments, which includes rugged PMC network interface cards for VME and CompactPCI platforms, as well as air and conduction-cooled Gigabit Ethernet Switches. “As the number of Ethernet ports in chassis increases, it makes more and more sense to use an embedded switch to simplify connections,” said David Compston, Business Manager for Radstone’s Netcomms Group. “This compact mezzanine has a number of different uses, acting either as a standalone Ethernet Switch, as a multi-port Ethernet NIC card or even providing additional 10/100 ports for our rugged Gigabit Switch.” PMCE3R is available in 5 build levels and is qualified for operation between -40C and +85C temperature. PMCE3R can be used as a standalone eight port Ethernet Switch, where it fits easily into any existing air or conduction-cooled VME or CompactPCI chassis with a spare PMC mezzanine slot. The small form factor and low power consumption enables PMCE3R to be easily integrated into any rugged application requiring a standalone Ethernet Switch with Gigabit uplink. The mezzanine includes an on-board Gigabit Ethernet Controller with PCI interface. This is connected directly to the switch and enables PMCE3R to be used as an eight port 10/100Mbps Network Interface Card when mounted on a suitable VME or CompactPCI processor. Software drivers are available for VxWorks and other leading operating systems. PMCE3R is suitable for air or conduction cooled environments and provides eight 10/100BASE-TX ports and one 1000BASE-T port with all external connections made to the rear via the P14 connector. The PMC module is fully compliant with ANSI VITA 20 and IEEE 1386.1 PCI Mezzanine Card Standards. PMCE3R is available to order now, prices starting from $2,395.
