Managing Assets on APM
This is an overview for configuring your asset ingestion (configuration management) and uploading your asset ingestion to the APM tenant. On a high level overview, managing assets on APM requires:
- Configuring Asset Ingestion
- Uploading template to the data loader
- Uploading data through asset ingestion
Before You Begin
You will need the following:
- APM tenant account with the user admin role
- Field agent(s) properly configured with data flow
These steps are intended to walk you through the process. Please see the APM tenant help section for more information and instructions.
The Unified Loader/Asset Ingestion Loader (xlsx file) will be initially configured with several of your assets from GE Professional Services. This file should be used to maintain your APM Asset Heirarchy. Assets can be added by using the ‘Equipment’ worksheet, simply copy one of the exsisting asset rows and modify, at least, columns ‘Equipment ID’, ‘Unique ID’ and ‘Equipment Short Description’. If the new asset is part of a different site you’ll need to modify coulmn ‘Site Reference Name’. The ‘Site Reference Name’ will need a cooresponding entry in the ‘Site’ worksheet.
The Asset Ingestion (JSON file) will be initially configured for several of your assets by GE Professional Services. These files should be used to maintain your APM asset to the Predix Time Series tag mapping. It is possible to represent several different assets in one JSON file, however, EQI2018 recommends using one JSON file per asset. There are two main sections, ‘tagClassifications’ and ‘tagAssociations’. ‘tagAssociations’ is where the mapping occurs. In the ‘tags’ branch of ‘tagAssociations’ each asset tag is defined. The ‘id’ represents the Predix Time Series unique tag name/id and the ‘name’ represents the common APM tag name. A common APM tag name should be used to increase templating and autonomy within the APM system.
In both cases of the xlsx and JSON files, it is recommended that syntax be followed exactly as the examples provided for your sites and assets as left by GE Professional Services. If errors are found through the below mentioned ingestion processes they will be reported during the ingestion routine.
We recommend following the below directory structure when managing your asset configuration files for a successful EQI2018 asset and site configuration.

- Log in to APM.
- On the left navigation column, select “Tools” > “Data Loaders”.
- Click on “Import New”.
- Select “Unified Loaders” > “Asset Ingestion Loader”.
- Add the job description and upload the configured data loader (.xlsx).
- Select “Import”.
- A new job will appear on the page with the description provided from the previous step. The “Status and Log” will indicate “Complete” when it has completed.
- Log in to APM.
- On the left navigation column, select “Apps” > “Asset Ingestion”.
- Click on “Upload Data”.
- Upload the zip file with the configured JSON.
- A new line will appear in the “Ingestion Logs” with your zip file name. The Task Progress will display 100% when the upload is complete.
If there is raw data that needs to be scaled, go to the Scaling help page for instructions on how to scale the data.
Otherwise, once the applications and their corresponding configurations have been successfully deployed, data flow can be verified in the APM Data Analysis user interface. For additional instructions on configuring data visualization, go to the Data Analysis help page.
